College Radio Work Experience

As part of my FDA Digital Media Productions Course, I will be working within a group to produce the marketing aspects for 'College Radio'. College radio will be an interactive project where as a group, we will be producing the following...

• 'College Radio' Logo
• Designs for posters/flyers
• Slogan/catchphrase

Also need to discuss any individual group ideas that I will discuss later on with my group.

Each group member will be taken on a few minor roles and collaborating on the major tasks. Tomorrow I will be getting together with my group and discussing, and drawing up a rough framework for a production schedule. This will fit in with our allocated timetable placement. Another task to be considered is the individual ideas of the weekly radio show.

Issues I believe may occur mainly involve the actual meeting up of all group members as half term approaches it will be harder to generally meet with the group, as personally I will be home in London for this time. A way to solve this will to arrange work between the groups for the half term. I have less then a day to organise this.

College Radio- Work Experience (Day 2)

Today we had a seminar with Phil our tutor, and he gave us a talk on Adobe Audition. Adobe Audition is similar to Garage Band, and you can produce your own tracks and samples. Adobe Audition was a fairly easy program to use, as the HMI was very clear and well constructed. The group all took it in turns to get familiar with the new program and I made a sample track using the basic audio samples that already was in the program.

Another agenda for the day was to record a 5-10 Minute Pod-Cast, which could be aired on the college radio. In groups of three. Myself, Jenny and Cat recorded a piece about the Media's influence on Women's diets. As this was something we had read in the paper only moments before we decided to talk about this subject. Often in radio, the DJ has the paper at hand and they will talk through the subjects that they feel are relevant at the time. This was the object of the pod-cast.

Other areas that we were allowed to discuss were:

- News & Current Affairs
- Film Reviews
- Local Topics

The Pod-cast we then produced was put into Adobe Audition and we will be editing it at a later date. Hopefully my Pod-cast will go onto the College Radio when the Entertainment section is up and running.

“College Radio” (Day 3)

Today I looked at Adobe Audition further and my set task today was to produce a 5-10 minute Pod cast on the World Cup 2006. As I wasn’t too familiar with Football initially I had to research a little so that I could gain more knowledge on the chosen subject.

At 3pm today I went and researched into the impending Football event of Summer 2006. As the World cup is still a few months away it was hard to find information on the England Teams line up, although a little research helped me gain some idea who might be, as I looked on www.totesport.com, a nationwide bookmakers who had their odds on who will score first out of the England team and also the odds for most likely to win the world cup and obviously who will lose.

So from my research I came to start planning my Pod cast speech. As I didn’t want to sound like it was all scripted I wrote down bullet points and used them as a basis.

So about 4pm I used the Mini Disc player, plus a couple of MIC's and with my group and recorded an excellent piece.

“College Radio” (Day 4)

Today for college radio I produced a desperate Housewives Podcast for my PDP folder. I can use this towards College radio because it is a popular topic of conversation and it’s a discussion between myself and my friend, Beth Wolfers and we talked about what time the shows aired, the characters and the plot lines. The podcast lasts 10 minutes and hopefully will be used on the college Radio. I also designed 5 designs for the college radio logo and for a t-shirt design that we will need to wear for promotion around Bournemouth. Two or 3 days we will need to be promoting the College Radio, handing our flyers at Poole Road, North Road and Landsdowne. We are trying to get the radio popular though discussions of interest and entertainment. There are a few designs that have been produced and I also looked at Bournemouth University’s radio station “Nerve” and see how they promoted it.
